This announcement was disseminated by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) via a statement on X on Thursday.
The tax, which was implemented during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, had been applicable to both voice calls and data services.
The decision to scrap the excise duty has been welcomed by telecom operators and consumer rights advocates, who had previously criticized the tax for imposing an additional financial burden on citizens already grappling with rising costs.

Addressing the development, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aminu Maida, confirmed that President Bola Tinubu ordered the removal of the levy during discussions regarding the recently enacted Finance Act.
"This action clearly indicates that the government is attentive to the concerns of Nigerians and is dedicated to making communication more affordable," stated Maida.
